At the Latimer School of Operational K9s, our detection dogs are actively trained through structured programs in Alabama. Current training includes bed bug detection work, with dogs developing scent recognition and search behavior through our detection dog training programs (/training-courses).
Our current training program includes dogs working in bed bug detection, a discipline that requires precise odor recognition and consistent search behavior in real-world environments.
Through Foundation Scent Detection Training, dogs are introduced to target odor and begin developing the motivation and focus required for detection work. Training then progresses into structured search exercises that reinforce reliability and accuracy.
This process builds the foundation for broader operational scent detection capabilities as training advances.

We are currently training dogs in active development, including Coco and Hunter, as they progress through scent detection programs.
Training focuses on:
• odor recognition and imprinting
• search behavior development
• environmental confidence
• handler engagement
As training continues, additional details and individual profiles will be added to highlight each dog’s development and capabilities.
While dogs may not always be immediately available for placement, our program is focused on developing reliable working dogs prepared for real-world environments.
Dogs are evaluated through structured K9 Selection & Testing and may continue into advanced training programs as they demonstrate readiness.
